Besides... what you're thinking about is not a three channel mixer, but a two channel... one is an actual output, capable of very high frequencies, and for some freakin' reason it never comes with a mute switch, only a solo switch ... the other two function like insert jacks... you can route something in, but also things are routed out of them now and then...

Yes, that's how I interpreted it, but it took me a few seconds. My thought process was, "Wow, a mixer with a built-in distortion... cool... oh... wait... right. Ha ha!"

Have a couple rack-mounted versatile mixers and both are Fostex 2016 Line Mixers. Has couple sends and returns for FX and you can even configure it so the first 8 rows of knobs/channels can be treated entirely different than the next 8 channels, or link them in the more common way, has ALL the instrument 1/4 jacks on front face below each channel AND although the front inputs take priority, one also has the option to use the full 16 S/PDIF inputs on rear as well, with the FX sends and returns and audio outs on the rear. I love it. Does not contribute any noise and intelligently laid out for fading in/out of channels.
It may have been made in 1990, but it works quite well for my needs and is a space/organization saver.

Just got the LM-3204... damn nice sound! ... there is no question this will replace my ONYX 24.4 console now.

Only a few problems... seller forgot to tell me that an LED in the VU meter was dead, and that the Control Room fader crackles like shit... clearly also a unit from a smoker, because the knobs that should be white on top, are yellowish, so I'm going to have to make some fixes... better get that soldering iron hot, and get me some contact spray for that fader.

But this is REALLY a sturdy and very VERY flexible unit... has everything I need in a 5U rackmountable package.

Then I can finaly remove that big sturdy wooden table that My ONYX was resting on... my girlfriend also wants to use it for other things

But I can warmly recommend this mixer to anyone who needs lots of inputs, and want stereo controls. No need to constantly adjust two channels to configure a stereo channel.

The specs are as follows:

Channel strips:
16 stereo channels
4 AUX sends switchable between two pairs... one pair having a stereo and mono send
3band EQ controls
Balance control
Gain control
Solo button
Mute/Alt 3-4 button (Alt 3-4 is a typical Mackie trend for routing a channel to a stereo output on the back... will go to my sampler)

Master Section:
4 stereo AUX returns (nice for getting four FX units back in the mix)
Solo Volume
Phones Level
Master L/R faders
Control Room fader
Source ALT 3-4 button for routing the ALT 3-4 signal to AUX Return 3
AUX Return 4 to control room only switch
Tape Monitor switch

And on the back of the unit:
Inserts jacks on four first channels (stereo of course)
Master insert jacks
Tape Input/Output (both RCA and Jacks)
2 Mic Preamps with gain control and jack outputs
Connector for connecting an LM-3204E expander for another 16 stereo channels
